Adaptogens – what are they and is it worth using them?

Stress is a common addition to the everyday life of virtually everyone. Some people feel it over and over again: problems at work, in a relationship, at home, and those happier sporadically, but everyone knows this from an autopsy. Stress leads to many negative states, including depression, so you should do something about it until it is too late. Adaptogens are one way to fight stress, but what are they at all and is it worth using them?

What are adaptogens?

Adaptogens are mainly herbal substances and extracts that support our body’s resistance to stress and all traumatic experiences in our lives. It must be non-toxic to the recipient. Long-term and chronic stress is very dangerous. Adaptogens support our immune system, give energy and help when we want to restore the proper functioning of the nervous system. Stress leads to a weakening of psychophysical fitness and to impairment of the nervous system, so it is extremely important to act when we feel that something negative is happening. Precious natural compounds called adaptogens can help in such situations.

Susceptibility to stress or simply coping with problem situations is an extremely individual matter, so also completely different measures can help with seemingly similar problems. Adaptogens are a great choice primarily because it is a natural way, and nowadays chemistry is everywhere, in the air, food and drinks. Instead of taking antidepressants right away, try differently – get healthier.

Where did Adaptogens come from

Nikolay Lazarev is considered a pioneer of research on adaptogens. He was a Soviet doctor and in 1928 he dealt with the influence of various chemicals on man and his body. During World War II, he was in a team that worked on creating a soldier, much more durable than average people. At that time stimulants were tested, but as you know, many cause addiction and have a negative impact on the human body.

This is how Lazarev, seeing the results of research, decided to take a different direction. He began to look for substances that are safe, stimulate and strengthen the body, and not those that destroy it and, as a result, significantly weaken it. He became interested in plants and, following the opinion of the people, found ginseng and a mountain horn.

Lazarev also set three conditions that the product must meet to be considered an adaptogen:

  • It should cause minimal changes (disorders) in the physiology of the body
  • It should not work specifically, but immunize the body through extensive physical, biochemical effects, etc.
  • It should normalize and improve various body functions and have no side effects.

Which plants are they?

Adaptogenic herbs are those that do not significantly stimulate, do not block the basic functions of the human body, and which will normalize the human body. It is a very important pillar of herbal medicine because it supports healthy people and those weakened by external factors.
